The report “Vietnam’s fertilizer market in quarter II/09” is a continuation of the early reports published by the Information Center for Agriculture and Rural Development. It is intended to provide comprehensive and up-to-date information about Vietnam’s fertilizer industry with a heavy emphasis on the fertilizer market in quarter II and forecasts for the second half of 2009 concerning supply, demand and price. In the report, we also analyze both exchange rate-driven risks and constraints facing fertilizer trading enterprises on accessing foreign currencies; influences of Chinese governmental fertilizer export policies on Vietnam market; the issue of fake fertilizers and measures to regulate Vietnam’s fertilizer market that have been in effect until now.

The report consists of these following main parts:

• Fertilizer supply and demand in the world and Vietnam markets

• Price movement

• Fertilizer trade

• Prominent issues of the fertilizer market and fertilizer enterprises in the first half of 2009.

• Market prospects in the second half of 2009

As a continuation of the early analyses of Vietnam’s fertilizer industry in 2008 and quarter I/2009, “Vietnam’s fertilizer industry in quarter II/2009” will serve as a useful reference for central and grass-root policymakers, international organizations, donors and especially the business community, corporate and individual investors to draw up business development strategies.
