Report on Meat and Foodstuff’s Market

Vietnam’s livestock sector is currently standing in front of enormous pressures. The meat and foodstuff market are inclusive of hidden factors in the short run. On the supply side, severe implications of inputs sources which heavily depend on imports, the fluctuations on exchange rates of foreign currencies together with the soaring price of animal husbandry feed have seriously affected the meat supply. The price of animal feed increased about 14% to 25% in the first five months of 2008, with an estimation of 20% of livestock enterprises had to shut down their performances. On the demand side, the prices of meat and foodstuff also jumped at 5-20%, along with concerns for the outbreak of disease over 14 provinces in the whole country which stagnated the demand tendency.

From the last 2007 to present, factors that affect demand & supply have formulated a new basis on price, creating a new market’s perspective. This change is now urging enterprises in the whole sector from husbandry feed, husbandry to processing and foodstuff to adjust their business strategies.
