The central Highlands province of Lam Dong has licensed a nearly 7.8 trillion VND (US$487.5 million) bauxite-aluminum complex.

The investor – the Viet Nam Coal and Minerals Corporation (Vinacomin) got the nod for its project from the provincial People’s Committee on November 16.

The complex, the largest so far in the province, will cover 142 hectares in Loc Thang town, Bao Lam district.

Construction of the project is scheduled to be completed by 2010.

Once fully operational, the complex is capable of exploiting 3.96 million tonnes of bauxite ore and churning out 600,000 tonnes of aluminum per year.
