Prices of live-hog and chicken in Southern provinces suddenly change, which has positive effects on breeder’s mentality. A reduction of current feed price will be an important factor to help breeders to increase production and fatten cattle and poultry for sales on the New Year.
At present, in Southeastern provinces, breeders are feeling regretful because live-hog price last week surged without having products for sale. Up to 24th December, traders still rummaged everywhere to buy live-hog with the price of 35500-36000 VND/kg while 2 months ago, it was very difficult for breeders to sell them and its price was too low, which has caused them to be at a loss.
This week, chicken prices in Hanoi increases by 2,500 VND per kg for each type. “Special-fed” and original chicken carcasses price 42,500 VND/kg and 82,500 VND/kg, respectively. Meanwhile, chicken prices in Lam Dong continue to remain steady, 42,000 VND/kg for “special-fed” chicken and 90,000 VND/kg for original chicken. It is very remarkable for chicken price in Ho Chi Minh City. Within a week, consumers are unexpected when poultry price has increased too highly. For each kg of poultry, consumers spend more 7000-10000 VND to purchase them.
Continuing trend of reduction last week, silverside prices in the markets this week reduce further from 2,500 to 8,500 VND/kg. In Ho Chi Minh, the price reduces most sharply this week, a decline of 8,500 VND/kg. The price in Can Tho also decreases quite strongly, reducing 5,000 VND/kg, but compared to the average price of the previous month, price this week is still higher than 8.27%. In Da Nang and Hanoi, they are down 2-3%, to 117,500 VND/kg and 110,000 VND/kg, respectively. Although Hanoi has the least reduce of the price, it is still the market which has a lowest increase of beef, up 0.27% compared to last week
Unlike price movement of beef price at markets, silverside prices of firms this week are quite stable. Sale price of Vissan, Sagrifood and Metro is 134,000 VND/kg; the prices of Big C and D&F are 120,000 VND/kg and 129,800 VND/kg, respectively.
Meat prices increased strongly on Christmas when people have been likely to tighten spending due to economic difficulties, which is an alarm sign for the leaders as well as manufacturers and food business. Most Vietnamese consumers still have the habit of buying commodity in traditional markets or stalls beside the road - where prices change quickly according to market movements. Therefore, if there is no good preparation of supplies and close management of price on the Tet festival, food price will be likely to increase highly.
