Vietnam dominates global pepper market
06 | 11 | 2007
With the supply of over 100,000 tonnes of pepper to the global market, Vietnam now is the largest peper exporter in the world with more than 50% of market share, said Do Ho Nam, chair of Vietnam Pepper Association.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported, Vietnam's price of pepper for export now doubles than last year from US$1,540 a tonne to US$3,140 a tonne. However the price could decline in the yearly crop of 2007-2008 due to disadvantageous weather while the country's pepper reserve is decreasing.

According to General Statistical Office, during the first ten months of this year, the pepper export declined by 37% in output but increased 28% in value to US$224 million. As estimated, pepper export for the whole year would down 20% in output but double against 2006 to US$310 million.

VPC's representatives currently attend the international pepper conference held between October 29 and November 2 in Malaysia.
