During recent meeting, Ministry of industry and trade informed that this Ministry is collecting the opinions of the other Ministries and industry on mechanism of rice export run in 2008 on basis of export target of 4.5 million tons. However, the sticky rice and performed rice are exported according to the demand. In order to controlling effectively, Vietnam Food Association proposed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to be unified the members in implementing the focused contracts.

Association assigns the contracts based on implemented result during 2 years (2006-07), essentially based on implementing capacity. Association will inform the minimum prices of export to the enterprises and the enterprises must export suitable to these guiding prices. Association also drafts the status on registering rice export contracts in 2008 that will be applied to all Vietnamese rice exporters.

During the week, the domestic rice prices unchanged in general. In Ba Ria Vung Tau, the prices of ordinary rice kept at 6700 dong/kg, the prices of ordinary paddy 3500 dong/kg. In Binh Duong, the prices of ordinary rice and ordinary paddy kept in turn at 5800 dong/kg and 4350 dong/kg.

However, the prices of Vietnam rice export continued to increase during the week. 10% broken rice increased 2.5 USD/ton, reaching 347.5 USD/ton. 5% broken rice and 25% broken rice increased 3 USD/ton, reaching in turn 358 USD/ton and 330 USD/ton. It is forecast that the prices of rice export in 2009 will keep at high level, of this 25% broken rice reach over 320 USD/ton, 5% broken rice over 340 USD/ton. The rice export in 2008 may reach 4.5 million tons.
