AGROINFO - Russian raw sugar imports were 2,000 tonnes in September, practically unchanged from August but down from 16,900 in September 2009 due to a high import tariff, customs data published on Monday showed.
Russian raw sugar imports were 2,000 tonnes in September, practically unchanged from August but down from 16,900 in September 2009 due to a high import tariff, customs data published on Monday showed.

Analysts at the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) expect no substantial raw sugar imports by Russia until the end of the year.

Russia, the world's third-largest sugar buyer, cut its import tariff on imported cane raws to $50 per tonne for May, before raising it to $200 in June, $239 in July, $203 in August, $171 in September and $140 in October through December.

Total imports in the first nine months of this year were still 59 percent above year-earlier levels, the customs data showed. The bulk of sugar was cleared by the customs in May.

The Federal Customs Service also said Russian imports of coffee, tea and cocoa rose in January-September 2010.
