Since lacking materials, Vietnamese companies have to import materials from other countries for domestic processing.According to Nafiqaved, the thorough inspection of the consignments of products to be exported to the EU which are made from imported materials is very necessary. The imported materials may suffer from four types of diseases, including Infectious Salmon anaemia-ISA, Epizootic haematopoietic necrosis-EHN, Infectious haematopoietic necrosis-IHN, and Viral haemorrhagic septicaemia.
Vietnamese companies must provide the information and take responsibility for the information they provide about the origin of the products.
As of May 2007, branches of Nafiqaved will have to inspect and grant certificates on food quarantine on exports to the EU under the new form. The new form of certificate was promulgated by the EU Commission on November 6, 2006, and the new form application has been slated for May 1, 2007.
Also regarding the quality of seafood exports, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said that the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare had, once again, issued a warning about the poor quality of seafood exports to Japan.
A recent inspection at Japanese ports showed that consignments of shrimp, cuttlefish and seafood spring rolls exported by five companies, namely Coastal Fisheries Development Corp, Vietnam Northern Viking Ltd, Khanh Hoa Seafood Co, Hai Viet Corporation and Viet Thang Private Ltd, contained Chloramphenicol, AOZ and Semicarbazide residues.
VASEP has asked seafood processors to examine thoroughly exports to Japan before shipping to the country, otherwise Vietnam may lose Japan, a very good market.
