Agri-product exports jump 30%

Exports of agri-products reached US$765 million by May, an increase of 20% against last May and bringing the total for the January-May period to nearly US$3.7 billion, increasing 29% year-on-year.
Coffee exports earned US$1.1 billion. Wooden product exports posted US$937 million rising 21% yoy. Exports of pepper reached 40,000 tonnes worth US$110 million, slipping 34% in quantity yoy buy increasing 27% in export value. Rice exports were limp so far this year. Just 1.8 million tonnes was shipped abroad worth US$580 million falling 21% in quantity and 9% in value compared with the year-earlier period.
Rubber exports reached 236,000 tonnes bringing in US$433 million but only nudging up 1% in quantity and 8% in value yoy.
Other agri-product exports such as tea and cashew were lacklustre as global demand was low.
