Taiwan’s Compal group on October 4 received an investment certificate for its US$500 million project to produce computers, laptops and TV monitors and electronic components in the northern province of Vinh Phuc.

The Chairman of the Vinh Phuc People’s Committee, Nguyen Ngoc Phi, handed over the investment license to Compal Vietnam Co. Ltd. General Director Chen Jui Tsung.

The project will be carried out from the third quarter of this year and its first phase is slated for completion within two years.

The plant is expected to turn out 24 million computers a year by 2012, and generate jobs for about 35,000 people.

The project is expected to attract 50 other projects valued at US$1 billion involved in manufacturing computer components.

Vinh Phuc has nearly completed site clearance for the project
