The Party Central Committee’s Political Bureau made the request while working with the municipal Party Committee’s standing board on Dec. 7.
The session, presided over by General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, focused on the city’s tasks for the 2001-2010 period and preparations for its 1,000 th founding anniversary.
Reports presented by Ha Noi’s Party officials showed that the city retained its role as one of the country’s major economic hubs, as it is expected to contribute up to 9.3 percent to the national gross domestic product (GDP), 15 percent of the industrial production value, 9 percent of the export turnover and 14.7 percent of the State budget’s earnings this year.
However, the Political Bureau said the city should work harder to improve the quality and effectiveness of growth, speed up economic restructuring, increase competitive capacity and fully tap its own potentials and strengths
