20 | 06 | 2007
The National Food Authority (NFA) of the Philippines has signed to buy 280,000 tonnes of 25% broken rice from Vietnam and will be delivered from this month to August 2007. To date, NFA has imported 1.61 million tonnes of rice from Vietnam.
In which, NFA bought 105,000 tonnes of 25% broken rice with the price of US$328.96 a tonne, Free On Board (FOB) of Dagrimex Co, Afiex An Giang and Vinh Phat Co, other 150,000 tonnes at US$328.99 a tonne including costs and freight (C&F) from Kigifac Co and Vietnam Northern Food Corp (Vinafood).

NFA also bought 25,000 tonnes of rice with the price at US$348.99 a tonne of Vinafood.

To May 2007 Vietnam exported 1.8 million tonne of rice, reached US$580 million in export turnover, decreasing 21% of quantity and 9% of value against last year, according to Vietnam Food Association (Vietfood).

Exporters' difficulties in leasing ships and higher shipping costs of up to 30% and 35% than FOB is the main reason.

In detail, the cost to transfer to Asia at from US$16 and US$17 up to US$25 to US$30 a tonne, to Africa from US$80-90 to US$110 to US$120 a tonne.

Vietfood recommended exporters to change to use containers for export
