Rubber exports tipped to earn US$1b-US$1.3b

Rubber companies nationwide expect to export some 700,000 tonnes of rubber of different kinds, earning between US$1 billion to US$1.3 billion in 2007 and continuing to be amongst the group of agricultural product sectors earning over US$1 billion, said a source from Vietnam Rubber Association (VRA).
Out of the 700,000 tonnes, Vietnam expects to produce 500,000 tonnes domestically while the remaining 200,000 tonnes will come from re-exportation.

According to the VRA's forecast, the averaged price of export rubber will be around US$1,860 a tonne.

During the first six months of the year, Vietnam exported over 280,000 tonnes worth US$527 million, with about 63% of the total volume going to China.

Export rubber includes many different kinds like SVR3L accounting for 40%, SVR10 with 17%, Latex with 10% and general rubber with 9.5%.

The country exported 697,000 tonnes, bringing in US$1.27 billion in 2006 and it was the first time that Vietnam rubber contributed to the group of export commodities earning over US$1 billion.
