Farmers get exemption from irrigation fees
22 | 10 | 2007
The Government has decided to scrap irrigation fees for farmers to reduce their mounting production expenditure, a big problem, especially for those farmers in rural and mountainous areas.

Under a newly-promulgated decree on implementing the Ordinance on Exploitation and Protection of Irrigation Projects, households and individuals using land or water surfaces within the given area for forest-agro production, aquaculture and salt production will be exempted from irrigation fees. Those areas outside the limit will still have to pay.

The decree regulated that the State budget will compensate units that manage irrigation projects to ensure the operation of the irrigation network nationwide.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, collection from irrigation fees averages at about 600-800 billion VND (37.5 million-50 million USD) a year.
