Mekong Delta pump investment into port

The second phase of a project to build major port Cai Cui is underway in the Mekong Delta City of Can Tho with an investment of 543 billion VND (33.9 million USD) from Government bonds.

The city plans to pour 253.6 billion VND (15.8 million USD) into the project from now to 2010, and the remainder from 2010 till 2013. The port will be capable of handling 2.5 million tonnes a year by 2010.

The project will include a 500m long and 30 m wide main wharf and three approach wharfs, a 6,084 sq.m general warehouse, a 29,056 sq.m general ground and a 25,600 sq.m container ground.

The port will have modern facilities capable of receiving 20,000 tonne ship to serve the Hung Phu industrial park.
