Although meeting with serious difficult likes natural calamity, epidemic diseases, in this winter-spring crop, An Giang has seeded 524,000 hectares of paddy, reached average yield of 0.74 ton/ha. It thanks to implement technical science conversion to each household, apply the seeding avoiding brown backed rice plant hopper, work actively interior field irrigation, dredge the canal. At present, 90% cultivated area of An Giang is planted by high quality paddy varieties that meet export requirements; over 81% cultivated area is applied 3 decrease 3 increase and IPM process on paddy, those bring the profit from 1 million to 1.3 million dong/ha.
Dong Thap province is focusing on applying 2 cultivated models “1 right 5 decrease” and model “community participate in preventing brown backed rice plant hopper and rice grassy stunt virus” on area of the hundreds of hectare to aid the famers to decrease 30 kg variety/ha, decrease 3.3 times of insecticide, decrease 300 dong/kg/crop of cost price. For this reason, each crop, the farmers economize about 1.3 million dong/ha.
This summer-autumn and winter crop, the farmers in My Xuyen, Thanh Tri, Ke Sach (Soc Trang province) have enlarged ST5 special variety planted area up to 10,000 hectares. ST5 paddy produce long blooms, big paddy grain, paddy body is solid. The average yield reached 5.3 tons of dry paddies per hectare, an increase of 0.3 ton/ha compared to the average yield of this crop of the whole province. The profit also reached from 10 to 20 million dong/ha, an increase of 2 to 5 million dong compared to other ordinary paddy.
This 2007-2007 winter-spring is the third year Bac Quang District (Ha Giang province) tested Van Quang 14 paddy variety that bring high yield from 0.66 ton/ha to 1 ton/ha/crop. Van Quang 14 paddy variety produce nice rice with 1.5 times selling price higher than ordinary rice price. After three test seeding crops, Bac Quang will enlarge Van Quang 14 paddy variety area to 14 communes with seeded area of over 500 ha in 2007-2008 winter-spring crop.
