12 | 09 | 2007
Vietnam earned US$72 million from exporting 70,000 tons of tea in the past eight months of 2007, making slight rises of 7.2 per cent in terms of volume and 6.2 per cent in value against that of 2006, the General Statistics Office showed.
Last year, Vietnam exported 105,000 tons of tea, including around 65,300 tons of black tea, over 27,000 tons of green tea and nearly 3,800 tons of jasmine tea, totaling US$111 million.

Vietnam has become the world's seventh biggest tea producer and ranks sixth in terms of exports among more than 30 countries tea growers and exporters. Its tea has been exported to 108 countries and territories all over the world.

There are more than 600 processing enterprises that operate on an industrial scale, with 27 of them being foreign invested.

The country’s total tea cultivation area is around 123,000 hectares. Some 32.5 per cent of the area is devoted to high quality tea.

Vietnam has joined the World Green Tea Association as a founding member, and is promoting the establishment of the ASEAN Tea Association. (GSO Aug Edition)
