The Quang Ninh-based Mong Cai border gate alone recorded 965.5 million USD in cross border trade, up 21 percent year-on-year, including 323.7 million USD worth of exports and 105.4 million USD worth of imports. The rest was in re-exported commodities. At the Lao Cai border gate, trade reached nearly 300 million USD, up 74 percent over the same period last year.
Trade was helped along by cooperation programmes between Lao Cai and China’s Yunnan province, particularly in transport.
The two provinces opened new overland routes, allowing about 100-150 trucks and cars to travel through the Lao Cai border gate a day.
