According to information from Ministry of agriculture and rural development (MARD), the Vietnam rice exporters signed more export contract of 412,000 tons of rice. Up to now, Vietnam signed 600,000 tons of rice to export for 2008. This rice quantity exports primarily to Philippines, the Middle East and American South. Also according MARD, it is forecast that the market of rice export for 2008 will be favorable, therefore, the MARD proposed the production target of 36 – 38 million tons of paddy and export target from 4.5 to 5 million tons of rice.

According to information from Ministry of Industry and trade, Vietnam permits to import 150,000 tons of tax – free rice from Cambodia in 2008. Vietnam will continue to be tax-free for import rice from Cambodia up to 2009, and will increase tax-free import quota up 200,000 tons of rice next year. The rice import from Cambodia always implement in the beginning of the year, contribute to stabilize the grain prices in the domestic market.

During the week, the prices of domestic and export rice were stable in general. In Bac Lieu, the prices of ordinary rice kept at 5800 dong/kg, the prices of ordinary paddy were 3750 dong/kg. In Binh Duong, the prices of ordinary were 5800 dong/kg, the prices of ordinary paddy 4350 dong/kg. 5% broken rice were priced at 355 USD/ton, FOB Ho Chi Minh City, 25% broken rice 327,5 USD/ton, unchanged compared to the previous week.
